    wild chinchilla

Do you love chinchillas? Would you like a chance to travel and save wild chinchillas? Now you can! The Save the Wild Chinchillas project is looking for volunteers who want to help with restoration of the wild chinchillas natural habitat. The wild chinchilla population has been reduced by 90% in the last 3 generations due to hunting and reduction of habitat. The good news is, there are people like Amy Dean who are working hard to bring back the natural habitat and preserve these lovely creatures in their natural habitat. Amy lives in Illapel,a Chilean city, which is the capital of the Choapa Province.

The major issue they faced in 2009 was a lack of volunteers to help with the watering of the   plants they planted in order to restore the habitat and food supply of the wild chinchillas. This year, they are looking for more volunteers to help in their effort. You will be provided with a place to stay while you are there, but Amy is a vegetarian and asks that you do not eat meat in their home. There are however restaurants near by where you can order what you want. You can learn more about becoming a volunteer here or on their website .

If you become a volunteer, we would love to hear your stories!

I am ashamed that people wouldn't take the time to think about all that has happen to wild and rare animals. The chinchilla population is going down fast, and soon we won't have any more chinchillas. I am an animal lover and my sister and I use to have a chinchilla and we love ours very much. Mine did die but she was sick and we didn't know what to do cause I was at my dad's house and he didn't know were to go. :(

I don't like seeing animals die especially mine. Her name was Chi-Chi and Shelby's was Cho-Cho and i miss Chi-Chi today so don't let people hurt these wild animal or any animals.

My name is Hannah and I would love it if you wouldn't abuse or neglect animals. Please dont be a murderer.

    Hey,
Ever since I first found out about chins I have been planning on spending the last years of my life breeding them on in the Andes and slowly enlarging their habitat to the point where I can free them into the wild. I'd actually be interested in this, is there anywhere I could find more information? I could probably provide a good bunch of volunteers as my friends and I have been talking about doing this for a while now.

I love chinchillas and i am also in so many ways fascinated by these remarkable and not to forget adorable animals. i own one now at the moment who i adore so much but he is sick at the moment and might die but i refuse to let go of hope for him. and as for the chinchilla species i plan on writing books after some studying and watching of the animals to show the world more about these animals and to make everyone care much more about these animals. I also want to be able to do more after a while. I can only hope for the best for now for my friend and his species.
